Saturday, May 5, 2012 was the start of the 12th year that Brookshire celebrated Cinco de Mayo. The parade started at the Brookshire Police Department and continued to Brookshire Convention Center, as the trail riders continued on to Hovas Park. Rooms To Go sponsored this year’s festival and had a beautiful float. The parade featured a full lineup of different business, elected officials, the Royal High School Band, and a special float for the contestants of the Little Mr. and Miss Cinco de Mayo. This was also a time for area horseman to show off their beautiful horses and candidates for the upcoming election to introduce themselves.
Everyone gathered at Hovas Park afterwards to enjoy the Mariachi and dancing horses. Several booths were on hand to serve food, and even much welcomed snow cones. Rooms To Go children’s fund had a booth so that everyone could register for a child’s bedroom furniture. The lucky winner was Enedian Infante.
At 2:00, the Little Mr. and Miss Cinco de Mayo pageant began. Little Miss Cinco De Mayo was Danahe Alcantar and Mr. Cinco de Mayo was Daniel Torres.
The Fiesta continued on Sunday with several bands performing throughout the day. This year we saw record-breaking crowds and vendors. Our local Denny’s came with their staff offering free pancake puppies and wheel to spin for a chance to win free food and other prizes.
We would like once more to thank Rooms To Go children’s fund for sponsoring this event.
We wish to thank the Cinco de Mayo committee for making this another wonderful event for our community. Proceeds raised from this event benefit the scholarship program at Royal ISD.
