Saturday, May 7, 2011 was the start of the 11th year that Brookshire celebrated Cinco de Mayo. The parade started at the Brookshire Police Department and continued to Brookshire Convention Center. The parade featured a full lineup of different business, elected officials, the Royal High School Band, and a special float for the contestants of the Little Mr. and Miss Cinco de Mayo. This was also a time for area horseman to show off their beautiful horses and candidates for the upcoming election to introduce themselves.
After arriving at the convention center, everyone enjoyed music by Mariachi Internactional De Houston and several talented dancing horses. Several booths were on hand to serve food, and even much welcome snow cones. A few horsemen offered rides to the children.
Then everyone moved inside the convention center for the Little Mr. and Miss Cinco de Mayo pageant. This year’s winners were:
First Place, King Valente Hinojosa & Queen Nalley Martinez
Second Place, Rafael Marmolejo & Consuelo Beltrum
Third Place, Delgo Sanchez & Jessica Calritto
The Fiesta continued on Sunday at Hovas Park. Several bands performed throughout the day. There were lots of booths offering food and other items.
We wish to thank the Cinco de Mayo committee for making this another wonderful event for our community. Proceeds raised from this event benefit the scholarship program at Royal ISD.
