On Saturday, March 5, 2011, the Royal FFA celebrated their 55th Livestock Show starting with a parade in downtown Brookshire. The weather was cold and windy, but the community gathered in support for their largest parade ever.
A large flatbed was overflowing with FFA students who have worked hard all year for this event. This years Friends of the FFA were in three different cars along with the parade committee. This years Grand Marshals were Michael and Janet Montgomery of West Engineering. Elected officials were also spotted, such as Waller County Judge, Glenn Beckendorff; Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace and Brookshire City Judge Ted Krenek; Commissioner, Precinct 4 Stan Kitzman; Brookshire Mayor Joseph Vaughn; Pattison Mayor Bill Matthews; several city council members; and Mrs. Waller County International 2011, Robbie Peterson. Others participating were various Trail Riders, area businesses, the Brookwood Community, the Early Childhood Center, the Royal High School band, church groups, EMS, the Brookshire and Pattison Area Volunteer Fire Departments, Brookshire-Katy Drainage District, city workers, and, of course, the Wells Fargo wagon was on hand. This was also a good time for the candidates to start their campaigning for the upcoming elections.
After the parade, everyone gathered at the Royal High School cafeteria to enjoy a wonderful fajita lunch before the announcements of the winning floats and the start of the auction.
CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL the FFA students on their hard work as it has paid off!
Thanks to everyone who helped make this a memorable year for them.
