On Tuesday, February 15, 2011, Brookshire welcomed Troy Yocum with open arms. Mr. Yocum is hiking 7,000 miles across America, raising money to help military families in need. With his wife and his 2 dogs by his side, they started their quest April 17, 2010 and hiked from Kentucky to California, hiking back east to Texas, and stopping in Brookshire for a short visit.
As he made his way up Hwy 90, escorted by Brookshire P.D. Chief Brandl Jackson, a couple of Harley Davidson's joined in to insure his safe arrival. Mr. Yocum ended his walk in front of the Brookshire City Hall where a large crowd was awaiting his arrival. Among those waiting to welcome him were children from the Boys and Girls Club, Veteran residents from the Oaks at Brookshire, Brookshire Mayor, Joseph Vaughn, and his City Council, Commissioner Stan Kitzman, Mrs. Waller County International Robbie Peterson, Royal I.S.D., Royal Superintendent Nathaniel Richardson, Royal I.S.D. P.D., B.V.D., E.M.S. and a large number from the community.
Thanks to the great people at Eve's Garden for giving them a place to stay for the last 2 nights! We wish Troy a safe journey as he makes his way to Washington and hope he makes his goal. Also remembering that all our Veteran’s are Heroes. We may be a small town, but we have big hearts!
