First United Methodist Church, Brookshire, TX

The mission of the First United Methodist Church of Brookshire is to worship God and make disciples of Jesus Christ. First United Methodist Church is here for you. We are young, old and middle-aged. We are single, married, divorced, widowed, parents, and grandparents. What we have most in common is our love of the Lord Jesus Christ. We want to share His love with you. What we have learned from our Lord and each other in this community of faith is this: By His grace, we take risks, make mistakes, confess, repent and try again-trusting in the abiding love Jesus Christ. We share a confidence that any life and hope in this community have more to do with God's faithfulness to us than ours to God. JOIN US AND LEARN MORE.

OUR HISTORY  First Methodist has throughout its history served the community with various programs and activities. This congregation traces its origin to the establishment of the Union Chapel Methodist church by the Rev. Churchill Fulshear in the former community of Pittsville (6 miles S) in 1844. Union Chapel served settlers in this area and moved to a new location about 2 miles south of here in 1880. The church later changed its name to Asbury Chapel. The Asbury sanctuary was sold in 1893, the year Brookshire was founded, and the proceeds were used to construct a new church building at this site. At that time the name of the church was changed to Brookshire Methodist Church. The Rev. J.W. Holt served as the congregation's first pastor. New sanctuaries were built after damage caused by the storms of 1900 and 1915. Due to the country's involvement in World War I, the rebuilding of the sanctuary in 1915 was difficult and required that the church provide its own labor. Four classrooms were added to the church building in 1928. The church became a full station of the Methodist church in 1946. In 1953, a new sanctuary was built at this site and in 1968 the name of the church was changed to First United Methodist Church of Brookshire.

Royal High School Marching Band headed to the Orange Bowl

The Royal High School Marching Band was selected as the only band to represent the state of Texas in the 2009 Orange Bowl in Miami, Florida.  This is a great opportunity and honor for our students as well as Brookshire, Pattison, and surrounding areas.  Over the past six years, the band students have participated and placed in several competitions, including holiday parades, marching band competitions, and countless community performances, not to mention first place in last year's Martin Luther King Marching Band Competition.

The band directors are planning fundraisers to assist with the trip, but this performance will need the assistance of the entire community as well as the state to ensure a successful trip for the students.  Monetary donations are greatly appreciated, so we can represent our school and the fine state of Texas at the 2009 FedEx Orange Bowl. You may contact Mr. Tamar Degrate at 832-472-0683 (cell) or email at tdegrate@royal.isd.esc4.net

Brookshire EDC's Business Mixer - July 25, 2008

On Friday, July 25, 2008, the Brookshire Economic Development Corp. held their annual Business Mixer.  Area businesses and churches were invited.  Everyone had a chance to socialize, network, and become acquainted with each other.  Some were introduced to new faces and new partnerships were made.  Tables were available for those who wanted to display their business information.  We are happy to say all tables were full and we will have more available for next year's function.

We would like to thank Don Corley of  Colony Cellars www.colonycellars.com for being on hand. Guests were invited to taste the wines from his vineyard.

We would also like to thank our bartender, John Karber, johnk1976@yahoo.com, for coming and setting up his bar so that guests could enjoy an afternoon cocktail.

Marilyn Vaughn, President of Brookshire Economic Development Corp, and Mayor Joseph Vaughn welcomed guests.  They also recognized the E.D.C. board members and presented each one with a certificate of appreciation.

4th of July at Hovas - 2008

This was our second year to have "4th of July at Hovas".  This year was bigger and better than last, and we hope it continues to grow.  The crowed enjoyed hot dogs, BBQ, fried fish, rides and the water park.  There was four soccer teams that drew a large crowed.  Then the City office workers squared off with the Public Works department for a volleyball match.  Mayor Vaughn not only cut watermelons for everyone; but he also had a hand in lighting the fireworks display.  We would like to thank the Brookshire VFD and EMS for their support.
